Once in Minneapolis, my wife's phone and cash were stolen from the parking lot of the co-op where she works. The next day, a guy called and failed to reach her. He called her mother and relayed that his stolen trailer had been recovered by the police. It was found with copies of my wife's expired NJ license and registration from a car that didn't make it to Minnesota. No cell phone was found.

A few days later, after 10pm, a different guy called me to say he found a phone on the sidewalk in North Minneapolis and wanted to know if we wanted it back. We don't live in North Minneapolis. Curious, somewhat wary of a trap but unable to image what that trap could realistically be, I nabbed a baseball bat and drove out to pick it up. He was honest. He didn't request a reward. He ate General Tso's chicken on the porch, and didn't pause dinner to speak with me. He told me his neighbors were fences who sometimes dropped MPLS HEAT on the sidewalk in their rush to get everything out of the van.

This album is dedicated to the guy with the porch.
